Sue Prestney

 

Sue commenced with Fell & Starkey (now Ernst & Young) Chartered Accountants in 1974 and worked as an auditor for 3 years. She became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1977. She then spent ten years in (what was then) Ernst & Whinney's business services division with five of these years as a manager, providing accounting and taxation services to a wide range of medium sized businesses.

In 1987 she joined Boyd Tuckwell Lush (now MGI Melbourne / MGI Sydney) as a taxation specialist and has provided consulting services in all areas of taxation and superannuation, specialising in corporate tax, corporate restructuring and superannuation planning using privately - administered superannuation funds. She became a director (partner) of the firm in 1991.

In recent years Sue has also focussed on family business advising, in particular the preparation of family business constitutions and succession planning, and has developed her own approach to these processes.

Her client base consists largely of medium to large family and private businesses in the manufacturing, transport, service, retail and wholesale industries, to which she provides a broad range of taxation, family business and financial advice.

Sue is the national spokesperson for the Institute of Chartered Accountants on small and medium business issues, and is regularly interviewed in the press, radio and television. She also writes the monthly Enterprise column for Charter magazine. She is a member of the ICAA's National Advocacy Taskforce and was a Victorian State Councillor from 2000 to August 2004.

Sue is author of "The ABC of GST" (published by Information Australia) which was listed in BRW's Top 10 Business Titles in April 2000 and "The ABC of BAS". She has had articles published in various publications on family business, taxation and preparation of businesses for sale. She is also a contributing author to Thomson ATP. She has given presentations on aspects of family business and taxation for various organisations, both in Australia and overseas.
